Footpath Matters:
We enjoyed lots of different enjoyable walks in 2018 and now have more to look forward in 2019.
I often suggest that a New Year’s Resolution could be to join our friendly walking group.
It has been lovely this year to have quite a few new regular members join us, but also to still have members walking with us who started the group thirty-two years ago.
Our first walk of 7.5 miles on Saturday 5th starts from Leighton Moss, heading right then left towards Brow Foot then passing close the shores of Hawes Water.
After edging round Challan Hall we reach Witherslack then walk through Eaves Wood and on to Elmslack and Silverdale, with views to a cove called The Cove.
After Silverdale Green we cross the golf course, pass Silverdale Station and return to the cars.

A short, easy walk of 5 miles rather than the 4 on the programme, with no lunch needed on
Friday 11th starts from Austwick Bridge and follows the track north to the base of Oxenber Woods.
It passes through open fields to look at Wharfe Gill waterfall before heading uphill around the outside of Wharfe and Feizor Woods to Feizor. Tea and cakes if required can be taken in the café there, before the bridleway is followed back to Austwick.

On Tuesday 15th we drive to Cartmell where we may need to park at the racecourse pay and display carpark. The 5.5 mile route goes south across fields and lanes to Allithwaite village, then back via Cartmell Fell and Fell End. The very end of the walk passes through Pit Farm which can be extremely muddy!

On Saturday 26th we hope to park by Barley Bridge, Staveley for the start of a 7 mile walk. We take the track up onto Reston Scar then up to Black Crag before dropping down to Scroggs Bridge. We continue up past Elfhowe to Ghyll Bank, and on past Littlewood Farm to Frost Hole, returning to Staveley via Side House and Spring Hag.
All walks leave Lairgill at 9.30am.
